What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are essentially artificial teeth that your dentist can use to replace teeth that you have lost or have been heavily damaged or decayed. While in the past, your only option would have been a set of dentures, which can improve your appearance but offer little in the way of function, implants can get much closer to the feeling of having a full mouth of real teeth!

Implants consist of the actual implant, which is a titanium screw that your dentist will gently insert into your jawbone to serve as a foundation, and a porcelain crown that goes on top. Implants can also be used to hold bridges or dentures more firmly in place, and in all cases serve as the most reliable option for restoring your smile. With implants, you won’t just look good again, but be able to bite and chew!

How Long Do Implants Take?

Like most good things, the implant process takes time — about six months from start to finish. First, your dentist or oral surgeon will need to prepare your jawbone (which may include a bone graft) and then insert the actual metal implants. Once those have integrated with the rest of your jaw over a period of several months, they can then be topped by crowns, bridges, or dentures for a full, finished look.

Single Tooth Implants

Single tooth implants are used to replace a single missing tooth with a single dental implant topped by a porcelain crown. Single tooth implants are a powerful, high-end solution that can be used to replace just one tooth, or as many as you need. Once completed, a single tooth implant looks and feels like a real tooth!

Implant-Supported Bridges

Implants can be used to make bridges stronger and more effective. A bridge is a row of crowns that have been fused together and used to fill in a hole in your smile caused by missing teeth. Traditionally, bridges were attached to the teeth at either end of the gap, but with implants, bridges can be held in place more securely and without the need to remove tooth structure from your remaining teeth!

Full Arch Implants

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, we can use full arch implants to give you a fresh new smile. Full arch refers to replacing all of the teeth on your upper or lower arch (or both). When topped with crowns or bridges, you’ll be able to smile with confidence — as well as use your teeth again!
